Beautiful - all of them. We live with danger all around and learn through life to make risk assessments and take precautions (at lot of it subconsciously) - those red 'fairytale' fungi being a prime example.
About 50 years ago I fished these rapids with my father, who at that time was the County Clerk of Taupo District. No dam then, just beautiful rapids among the thousand of acres of bush - and no people. Spent many happy hours following animal game trails while Dad fished. Sadly all gone in the name of progress. After visiting Aratiatia Rapids I headed towards Taupo Lake, which is where most of New Zealand’s geothermal power stations are located. I stopped at Wairakei geothermal power station and took a few photos. This is the largest geothermal power station in New Zealand at 161 MW.
As for the food, to die for, great selection to choose from. Between us had lamb rack, one pan fried fish and seafood chowder. All very happy with our choices. The rapids end in a short waterfall called the Huka Falls. I didn’t do anything to manipulate these pictures, because the water was actually that blue!
